The German Music Competition
in March 2020 at the Redoute!

Once again, the Deutscher Musikwettbewerb is visiting the Redoute from 23rd to 26th March. The first two rounds of the competition in the flute and oboe categories will be held here.

More than 30 flute players have prepared a sonata by Johann Sebastian Bach for the first round, as well as either the Undine Sonata by Reinecke, the Variations on „Trockne Blumen“ by Schubert or the Serenade Op. 41 in D major by Ludwig van Beethoven.

Competitions at the Redoute:

• Monday 23/03/2020, from 1 pm: 1st round flute, 1st part
• Tuesday 24/03/2020, from 10 am: 1st round flute, 2nd part
• subsequently (from approx. 19:00): 1st round oboe, 1st part
• Wednesday, 25.03.2020, from 10 am, 1st round oboe, 2nd part
  afterwards (from approx. 1 pm / 2 pm): 2nd round flute
• Thursday 26.03.2020, from 14:30: 2nd Round Oboe

For the second round, the choices were: the Grande Polonaise by Theobald Böhm, the Carmen Fantasy by François Borne or the Der Freischütz Fantasy by Taffanel, as well as a 21st-century composition and a sonata by Jolivet, Krenek, Muczynski or Poulenc.

The twelve oboists have prepared a sonata by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Johann Sebastian Bach or Antonio Vivaldi for the first round, as well as 3 pieces/studies for solo oboe by Dorati or Silvestrini.

For the second round, the choices were: 3 Romances by Clara or Robert Schumann, a 21st-century composition, and a duo work by Antal Doráti, Henri Dutilleux, Pavel Haas, Paul Hindemith, Nikos Skalkottas, and Klement Slavický.

The musicians will do their utmost to convince the audience and jury of their ability and to be accepted into a three-year funding programme run by the German Music Council.

Spectators are very welcome at all rounds of the competition. Admission is possible during the changeovers between participants.
